Setting His Example

Our goal is to please the Lord Jesus in every respect, while continuing to develop and grow leaders for the children of Community Bible Church. The children we serve look to adult leaders as examples. Many times they will determine if some behavior is right or wrong by what we do.

Matthew 18:5-6 states “Whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me; but whoever causes one who believes in Me to stumble, it is better for him that a heavy millstone be hung around his neck, and that he be drowned in the depth of the sea.”

We know that each of you love the children at CBC and in our community. You demonstrate that love through your faithful service and commitment to the Lord and our children. Our desire is to provide some biblically based guidelines as we serve the Lord alongside you, obeying His Word and trusting Him to help us to be holy in our behavior, dress and speech. Therefore these guidelines are meant to be a helpful tool, not a legalistic list of do’s and don’ts. Please pray for God’s guidance as you seek to honor Him with your life and your service.

Seek to know the Lord Jesus more fully.

  • Spend time with the Lord Jesus daily in prayer and Bible study.
  • Worship the Lord personally throughout the week and attend corporate worship services faithfully.
  • Be encouraged and held accountable by other believers by joining and regularly attending an adult Bible study. Learning God’s Word grows your faith. Attending Wednesday evening service and listening to biblically sound
  • Bible teaching on the radio (an example is 88.7 FM WAGP) can help you to learn and apply His truth.
  • Fellowship with the body of Christ individually and at church wide picnics, Christmas party, etc.

Help children know right behaviors by demonstrating this by your example.

In our dress….

For Sunday School and Worship services, dress in a manner that proves God is worthy of our best. If you have available to you, please wear clothes that are a little more formal than you might wear to our less formal activities such as AWANA meetings, VBS, KidsLife, or Wednesday evening services.

The following clothing is never acceptable due to modesty issues: tank tops, spaghetti straps, halter tops, belly shirts, low-cut and tight shirts, or tops that do not meet pants, shorts, skirts when you raise your arm, reach for something or bend over.  Shorts and skirts need to be knee length. Baggy pants hanging off the hip, hip-huggers or low-riders should not be worn.  Undergarments must not be seen at any time. Also clothing with objectionable or questionable words should not be worn. Males should be clean shaven, have a Christ honoring haircut, and abstain from pierced jewelry.

In our speech…

  • Always let your speech be kind and gracious. Build children up with the things you share with them.
  • Never talk about other individuals negatively, joke about sin, or make fun of the children.
  • Always show respect and love for our elders and leaders at CBC.

In our behavior…

    • Abstain from smoking and drinking alcoholic beverages. Ask for teaching tapes from Pastor Carl if you  have questions.
      • Consider Philippians 4:8 Finally Brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right,             whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is anything worthy of praise,    let your mind dwell on these things.
  • Abstain from every form of evil. 1 Thess. 5:22
  • Flee immorality. 1 Corinthians 6:18a
    • Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your
    •             Father who is in heaven.  Matt. 5:16

We realize that the Christian life is a journey that leads us closer to our Lord Jesus and His holiness each day we live.  If we choose to be like Him, we will constantly see areas in our lives that may need changing as He molds and shapes us into the individuals He wants us to be. We recognize that we are all at different places on this journey called “Christianity”. This is the reason we do not want to develop a list of do’s and don’ts,  but unfortunately in the culture we now live in, it is necessary to draw some clear lines and help develop individuals as they grow in their walk with the Lord. We pray that you will thoughtfully read this material and consider it a stepping stone in helping to teach, nurture and lead the precious children God has entrusted to us.
